Frequently Asked Questions

Please call the museum or check the museum website for specific admission details and hours before visiting!

For which museums are passes available?

Who may borrow museum passes?
Bernardsville Library users with a current Bernardsville, Bernards Township or Clarence Dillon Library card.

Are there other rules about borrowing the passes?
Yes, there are several.  Only one museum pass at a time can be checked out to a household.  Once a museum pass has been checked out to a particular museum, the household members must wait 30 calendar days before taking out that same pass again.

Because of the high demand for American Museum of Natural History vouchers and to maximize the number of people who can take advantage of our Museum Pass program, we limit each household address to two vouchers every six months.

Only service dogs and invited demonstration dogs are allowed in the American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog.

How long may I keep a pass?
Four days. (Does not apply to AMNH.)

Who may use the pass with me?
Every museum has different rules about their pass.  Please check the guidelines for each specific pass.  The guidelines are included in the museum pass packet.

How may I pick up and return a museum pass?
Passes are available at the Circulation Desk.  Museum passes are available on a first come, first served basis.  You cannot reserve a pass.  Please return the pass in person to a staff member at the Circulation Desk.  Do not put it in the book drop.  (Does not apply to AMNH.)

What will it cost me?
It’s free (unless it’s returned late or lost).  You will be required to leave a $20 refundable deposit when you check out a museum pass.  This money will be returned when you return the pass and the packet.  If the pass and/or packet is lost or returned late, the $20 deposit will be applied to the fine incurred.

In the event that a pass is lost, you will be charged $50.  There is no charge if you lose the AMNH vouchers, but you will not be given replacement vouchers before six months have passed.

What if I don’t return a pass on time?
Failure to return the pass will result in a fine of $5.00 per day (with a maximum fine of being the cost of the pass).  Failure to return the pass container will result in a fine of $5.00.

Do all passes work the same way?
Each museum has different guidelines for their pass.  Please respect their guidelines which are included in the museum pass packet and check the museum website prior to your visit.

Who pays for the museum passes?
Museum passes are made possible by gifts to the Friends of the Bernardsville Public Library.

Who are the Friends of the Library?
The Friends of the Bernardsville Public Library (FBPL) is the established organization that welcomes members who are interested in volunteering time and resources to the library.  A non-profit organization, the Friends group is a fundraising arm of the library.  Through members’ generous tax-deductible contributions, the Friends provide programs and services that cannot be funded through the library’s annual operating budget from the Borough.  This includes funding for computers, books, materials, and programs that enhance the library’s offerings.

How do I join the Friends?
Anyone who makes a donation or volunteers at the library is a Friend of the Library.  Operated by an annually elected board, the Friends meet on the first Wednesday of every month.  For more information about volunteering or to make a contribution, please visit us on the library website: www.bernardsvillelibrary.org
