On Friday, August 23 at 2:00 pm, Bernardsville Public Library is pleased to present a free screening of “A Star is Born” (2018), starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.  It’s the fourth remake of the Hollywood myth about two performers at different stages of their lives—one on the way up to great success and the other on an irreversible downslide.

Manohla Dargis reviewer for The New York Times, wrote of the movie, “This latest and fourth version [of “A Star is Born”] is a gorgeous heartbreaker (bring tissues).  Like its finest antecedents, it wrings tears from its romance and thrills from a steadfast belief in old-fashioned, big-feeling cinema.  That it’s also a perverse fantasy about men, women, love and sacrifice makes it all the better.”

Viewers are encouraged to linger after the film to talk about this most recent version or any of the earlier versions with the glamorous stars of their day.  Ed English will provide a brief document to start the discussion, and there is always a spirited conversation about character, motivation and style!

Bernardsville Library’s movie series is funded by gifts to the Friends of the Bernardsville Library.  The movies are selected for cultural enrichment and for appeal to a wide variety of tastes and interests in the community.  The next film, “First Reformed,” will be shown on Friday, September 27 at 2:00 pm.

There is no charge to attend the movies; advance sign-up is requested, but not required.  To register, click here, or call the library at 908-766-0118 to sign up.
